Apple Buys Indoor GPS Specialist in Map War

Posted in SEO News & Updates

Apple had paid around $20 million for  WifiSLAM. WifiSLAM is a company that in its early stage start-up, raised roughly $1 million in angel investment.

WiFiSlam’s original plan was to market not to consumers but to developers who, in turn, could use indoor location to deliver services and content to their customers. Apple may see indoor location as a future part of the iOS platform.

According to an article posted at The Wall Street Journal, the acquisition could help Apple catch up with rival Google Inc. in mapping after it cut its ties with the Internet giant over maps last year. Google offers indoor mobile maps of locations like shopping malls and airports for Android users but not for iPhone users.
